For those who use fiber for inter-array communication...

We have found that during lightning storms our media converters malfunction. When checked the power and copper link appear to be fine but the fiber link is lost and can only be restored by resetting the converter. It occurs quite often and we have put considerable effort into our power surge suppression, yet it continues. We would like to know if anyone has experienced this and how it was solved. Possibly with a more robust media converter if anyone could recommend a manufacturer.

On Fiber communication:

As I recall we had problems in the past with some of the inexpensive self powered converters. Adding external power to the converter helped stabilize the operation.
