E3 Will Happen Online-Only Due to Spread of New Omicron Variant

E3 -one of the biggest video game trade shows of the year it will be an online-only show this summer according to the ESA announced today due to ongoing concerns over COVID-19, a pandemic. The announcement, first reported by VentureBeat, is the third year in a row E3 has opted to skip its in-person show because of the pandemic.

  • “Due to the continuing┬árisk of COVID-19 to the health and the potential consequences for security of attendees and exhibitors, E3 will not be hosted in person in 2022.” ESA said in a statement. ESA stated in its statement issued to VentureBeat. “We are nevertheless excited regarding the future for E3 and are looking for more information in the near future.”


The ESA initially intended to revive E3 with an offline event beginning in 2022. declaring in the month of April (when the conference officially switched the conference from the digital format) the fact that “the ESA looks forward to returning to commemorate E3 2022 live in the flesh.” However, with the beginning of the omicron variant , and increasing numbers of cases across the United States, the ESA seems to have decided they don’t have the financial risk to hold a conference with thousands of game designers, journalists and gamers this summer.
